Linksys SD208 Unmanaged Switch Issues
Three years ago I purchased a Linksys SD208 for my new apartment. It worked great, and has continued to serve me well for 3 years now. Recently, it has been dropping the connection to the modem at least twice a day. Whether the computers are not in use, or trafficing high bandwidth, it drops it. I chatted with Linksys for about an hour yesterday, and he basically said:
“You can spend the money to RMA it, we’ll still take it - or buy a new one.”
That’s pretty much the answer I was expecting because you can’t really tech support a switch. Is it plugged in? Yes. Are all the cables installed properly and the LED’s are on? Yes. Does the power adapter get very very hot? No. Okay throw it off your balcony then.
I had a Linksys WRT54G for about 6 months that worked fine aswell, then started killing the DHCP server on it. Even with updated firmware and 3 hours on the phone with Linksys configuring every possible thing, it still dropped me. So then I went back to the switch, and haven’t had a problem for 4 months, then this starts up. It’s very annoying.
So far all I have tried is putting the power adapter into a different outlet. Hopefully something that minor will fix the problem.
Also in order to restore my connection, all I have to do is unplug the switch for 10 seconds, plug it back in. Modem is not affected. So it’s minor but an inconvenience for sure. Right in the middle of gaming and then my character keeps running forward into a tree while the connection times out. lol.
